Florence graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University in 1996. She then taught middle school Language Arts in Phoenix, Arizona where she enjoyed working with students to improve their reading and writing skills. Although she loved working with young people and loved teaching language skills, she discovered that she wanted to help individuals to overcome their specific, unique challenges with language. She found her dream profession in Speech-Language Pathology! In 2003 she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders. While in graduate school, she was honored with an ASU Clinical Achievement Award in recognition of her clinical skills as a graduate student.
Upon receiving her master's degree, Florence began working for a private speech-language pathology organization in the Phoenix area. In November 2006 she was nominated by the family of one of her clients for the Child Improvement Through Therapy: Heart of the Therapist Award.
In the summer of 2007 Florence moved from Arizona to Atlanta where she was thrilled to join The Language Group. Here she enjoys working with students of all ages to improve their listening comprehension, memory, phonological awareness, reading, writing, expressive language, executive function, pragmatic, and speech/articulation skills. She is happy to be utilizing some of the expertise that she developed as a Language Arts teacher in conjunction with her speech-language pathology training.
Florence continues to learn by attending a variety of workshops and conferences. Some of her recent professional development courses include:
Florence holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) as well as speechlanguage pathology licensure in the state of Georgia. Florence is certified in two literacy/phonics programs: Lindamood-Bell's Seeing Stars and The Spalding Method. She is also a Fast ForWord provider.
Florence loves traveling with her husband, reading for her book clubs, organizing spaces, and hosting mid-week church activities for 8-11 year old girls. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with her husband and five children: three teenagers and toddler twin boys.
